The episode opens 3 years ago in a Russian prison as a pair of brothers – the Russian crooks from episode 1 – plot their escape to America while fashioning shivs from the ribs of their dead cellmate. Back in the present day, Matt beats the hell out of the Russian gang and then receives medical treatment from Claire, who is still hiding out after the events of episode 2.

  • ;Matt gives her a burner so they can stay in touch, while elsewhere the Russians are informed by Wesley that their failure to stop “the masked vigilante” means the Kingpin has “offered” to take over part of their operation. To restore their credibility they try to track Matt down by finding and kidnapping Claire.
  • She manages to alert Matt using her phone.

  • Elsewhere, Karen goes to Ben Urich and the pair eventually agree to work together to investigate Allied-Union, and the Kingpin takes Vanessa on a date. After Murdock rescues Claire and humiliates the Russians one of the brothers makes a scene, interrupting the Kingpin’s date to agree to his terms.

  • The Kingpin cuts the date short, but Vanessa appears to have been scared off. This angers the Kingpin, so he brutally murders the Russian.

## Episode 5 World On Fire Episode Recap

After her abduction, Claire is staying with Matt. He reveals more about himself and they kiss, before he runs off to beat up some people. Vladimir, the surviving Russian, is trying to find his brother. Fisk (who actually killed him) frames “the vigilante” for the murder, then tells the rest of the syndicate that the Russians are going to be taken out of the picture and their money split between the four of them.

Foggy and Karen take a new client – a woman whose landlord is attempting to force his tenants out. Matt heads to the police station and overhears police officers murder a Russian for giving up Fisk’s name. Foggy helps out the client by confronting their lawyer (his ex-girlfriend) in front of an impressed Karen. As Daredevil, he beats him up and finds four locations pertaining to Russian headquarters. The Russians, meanwhile, think Daredevil is working for Fisk after Turk gives them some information. While Fisk dines with Vanessa, the Russians prepare for war with Fisk and Foggy and Karen eat together at the client’s house.

As Daredevil investigates one of the Russian headquarters, Fisk’s men suddenly move in and blow the place up.

  • Foggy and Karen are mildly injured by the blast, which was next door, and Vanessa and Fisk watch the city burn from their restaurant vantage point.
  • An injured Vladimir escapes the building but Daredevil catches him… just as the police arrive and order him to freeze. Cliffhanger!- Clair rescued.

  • DD Senses revealed the world on fire.

  • With Claire’s phoned-in help Matt stabilises Vladimir and convinces him that he didn’t kill his brother, but fails to make much headway until Fisk talks to Murdock over the radio and confirms that he was the one who sold out the Russians.

  • Fisk gets his network to tip off the media about the ongoing siege, then orders the murder of several cops in front of them. The police move into the building but Matt escapes underground with Vladimir’s help.

  • Unfortunately, Vladimir can’t hold out any longer. He gives up Leland Owlsley’s name and then stays behind to meet his death on his feet while Matt escapes. Afterwards, we see that Fisk has used footage of Matt fighting cops to frame him for the murder and bombings.
